Been listening to a buncha good tunes travelling from Edmonton to Vancouver and now out to Victoria. Going for a little precomp jog here in Victoria soon so I'll get right into it.
Austra - Feel it Break
Austra - Feel it Break
I surprised myself while listening to this album. It was early morning. I was flying (I hate flying and I always break out in sweats and nausea when we are landing) and we were landing in Vancouver. It was a typical Vancouver overcast day and somewhere between the nausea and the mountains and the ocean I started to fall in love with this album. It is textured, nuanced, cinematic, and mystical. Favourite tune: Lose It
Neil Young - Le Noise
Sure, it's better to burn out than to fade away but it's way better to never fade away than to burn out. Neil Young can still kick ass. I've listened to a bunch of NY albums from Harvest to Rust Never Sleeps to Are You Passionate, and his newest effort holds its own. Raunchy and sympathetic it sounds like a confused acoustic record lost in an ocean of noise. And it fuckin works. A 65 year old rocker who won't acquiesce to a cliche. Favourite song: Hitchhiker
Dirty Beaches - Baldlands
Dirty Beaches - Baldlands
A dark album with a lot of space. Mysterious. Like Jack Kerouac's poem 'The Sea' at the end of Big Sur this music sounds like dirty beaches and tornadoes coming through the speakers of a classic car. It makes me want to drink a buncha wine and live my life in black and white. Favourite tunes: True Blue, Lord Knows Best.
