So, I thought about posting last night... couldn't do it after watching the Gryphon jumps meet. Okay so Kim Richardson whipped out an 11.81 in triple jump. I know, right? Amazing! Huge PB on a day that mattered a lot. Zoltan would be so, so proud. The atmosphere at the warehouse was super-positive and a handful of us also witnessed the most motivational talk imaginable from an alumnus. He makes Jordan Chase from Dexter look like a sissy!
SUCCESS.
Melancholia had no business sticking around.
So this meet last night was in honour of Zoltan Tenke, who coached our jumps group before he passed away a few years ago. To say he had a lot of character would be an understatement. Fortunately some fond (or crude, or hilarious...) memories are passed on from vets to rookies. I didn't know Zoltan well, but for teammates and friends like Kim and Guyson, he shaped much of who they are now, as both athletes and people.
I remember there were alot of people at his funeral, which reminded me of a movie I watched with Benoit and Nixon earlier this week called Harry Brown. Partway through the movie an elderly man is killed in a brutal stabbing. The next scene shows the funeral, where only his best friend and the Priest are standing at his grave. It's hit me pretty hard. I can't stop thinking about it.
I'm starting with Tom Waits and Elliott Smith. Neither seem to have any capacity for happiness as musicians. Listen to the lyrics of the first song.
Matthew Good is another doozy. Dude's pretty messed up but he makes some epic songs. Not epic in a joking "that night was epic" kind of way.... I mean actually epic.
aaaaand Karaocake. She's interesting. From France and produces everything from Garage Band.
Last but not least, some more Sigur. Definitely in my top 10 songs ever.
Winter's almost over!
Love, Tara
