Trust No One

Yo, Cody here. I love The X-Files. Love them. Probably the best TV series of all time. And possibly the freakiest, although Fringe is trying hard to get to that level. One thing you should never do when you're 9 years old and home alone at night is watch the X-Files. Talk about nightmares, or just being terrified while still awake. This one night, during Season 2, I watched the episode where Mulder and Scully get trapped in the west coast rain forest with ancient glow-in-the-dark bugs attacking people if they didn't stay in the light. Yah, I slept with the lights on that night. Or how about that Flukeman episode, also in season 2, where this half human-half flukeworm guy is found in the sewer systems. F***ing CREEPY! So without further ado, here is the theme song from The X-Files. I have yet to find a tune that gives me goosebumps quite as well as this one.

Sticking with an X-Files theme, I'm also scared of having people other than myself control my life or the world around me. Like conspiracy theories and all that hidden agenda stuff. Just tell me what the hell is going on! Straight up, no BS. I wanna know who's on my side and that I can just them. I don't want to have to second guess people. It sucks. And I don't wanna be a slave to some corporation or government. I just wanna be me. So, with that, I give you the always spine-tingling Pink Floyd and the song "Welcome to the Machine".

Nerd fear: the day superheros stop protecting us. You know, when we start taking them for granted and they stop caring about us. Or when we demand superhero regulation and spark a war between those who want rules and those who don't, ultimately destroying the earth in their battle for supremacy. Scary thoughts. Which is why everyone should read Civil War and The Watchmen. Or watch the movie. The movie is pretty awesome. The first time I saw the trailer for it, the one with the Smashing Pumpkins song, I was with my friend Alec and he almost started doing cart wheels around the movie theater. But yah, that song is creepy so here is "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning".

Ok, last song. This one has to do with my fear of an ever increasing reliance on technology and digital devices. I'm a huge nature nerd and I like things nice and simple and organic. Not that I don't recognize the role that technology plays in making everything more efficient which is better for the planet but I'm nervous of the day when people put their own "wants" ahead of the "needs" of the planet. Do we really need iphones or video games consoles to live? I doubt it. And yes, I do have an iphone but I can definitely get by without it. Anyways, I just really like this planet and I don't wanna see humans destroy it. So onto the song. Its by Thrice. These guys are very intense and as of late, very melodramatic. Their music is awesome and the lyrics are very poetic. They've changed their style to this flowing, melodic, forceful assault and I like it. Plus Dustin Kensrue has won some pretty prestigious poetry awards, so the dude's lyrics rock. Here is "Digital Sea" off of The Alchemy Index Vol. II. Also check out "All the World is Mad", very creepy.

That's enough freaky stuff for one post. Later.

C Dot
