Week 2:

People often warn "you know, working with music is distracting, unless it's classical like Chopin or something. They say it's better to study in a quiet room so you don't lose focus." Although likely true, I don't give a care. I've also heard that if you drink beer while studying you're supposed to mimic that in your exams. Hmm, tempting. Perhaps it warrants a science experiment. I'd argue that good music is sometimes the only thing keeping students awake and sane these days, aside from the glorious benefits of being coffee lovers. Lots of people seem to work with study playlists blasting despite what those psychologists say. Bunch of crazies.

Marking 500 physiology exams feels far too monotonous without something to listen to. Staring at a computer screen for hours of lit-reviweing is also a struggle by the time 2:30 rolls around (a.m or p.m, either way). I do NOT envy those with crazy schedules that have them writing 6 exams in 7 days (...haha, my brother. What a sucker.) Don't get me wrong, I do like school an awful lot. It's just that headphones and Hype Machine are necessities when the school-going gets tough and you can't get going.

Human contact/communication is also nice, at times.

Darwin Deez has single handedly fuelled November/December 2010. I have a big crush on him now, mostly because his songs are always stuck in my head.... they're just so dang catchy and happy.

I often find myself reverting to songs that are reminiscent of home when life gets stressful-- it's like my audio attempt at comfort food or something. My Dad always had music on when we were little and he still digs up some gems every time my family's back home together. We usually sit there for awhile asking "hey, have you heard this yet?", passing tunes back and forth. They're just on youtube instead of records these days. The man has impeccable music taste and I would love to be as cool as him when I'm 50. We just can't get him to like Jay-Z. Anyways, these next three songs are staples for studying and stress. Thanks Dad, love you:

Happy studies and even happier Christmas Break!

Love,

tara
