Sugar, We're Going Down Swinging

It's all gone to shit people. I'm sorry but I doubt I have the ability to keep this blog going on my own. Let's face it: I have no talent when it comes to writing or trying to be insightful about anything. If this blog was about lame jokes then I could do it. I may throw in a post every once in awhile from here on out but I make no promises. Robby J was the glue that held this thing together and probably the only reason people read this blog. But, hey, I never go down without a fight, so here is my best attempt at a post.

So remember how I said that All Time Low signed with a major label and released a new record? And remember how I hoped it didn't ruin them? Well, it did. That new album sucks balls! And I mean it sucks. It's like every other pop punk pukey band out there. It's like a mix of Panic! At The Disco and New Found Glory. It's fucking shit! Do not even waste your time listening to it, it's such a disappointment. If you want good All Time Low, listen to Nothing Personal or Put Up or Shut Up. Those are good albums.

Also, WTF is with the HMV in Guelph? I went in there to get the new Alkaline Trio album and a couple of Farewell albums and they didn't have any of them! Get your act together HMV or I'll have to resort to downloading albums and I would genuinely like to support these bands and actually have a hard copy of their work. Besides, everyone knows there is less compression on CDs then there is on mp3s so the music just sounds better.

The one thing that was good about my HMV trip was the acquiring of the new Flogging Molly album Speed of Darkness. I've just finished listening to it and WOW, it's amazing. Gonna go out on a limb and say it may be the best Flogging Molly's album to date... time will tell but first impressions are off the chart. This is a pretty fitting song for the mixtape right now. This is "So Sail On".

I guess if this is the end of the mixtape then I'll have to throw in some of my favourites that have yet to surface. This is Motion City Soundtrack's "Even If It Kills Me". These guys own my life.

Another great finishing song by one of my favouite bands. This is "For All The Unheard" by The Bouncing Souls. Just listen...

Have you read The Perks Of Being A Wallflower? You should. It will change you. The main character, Charlie, makes a mix tape for his friend. The first and last song of this mixtape are "Asleep" by The Smiths. The Smiths only recorded this song once but they got it right the first time. Between Morrissey's voice and Marr's piano, I don't think a better song has ever been written. If this doesn't punch you in the heart, you have no soul.

LGFUAD

A hangover mix... right... blah. Hangovers are no fun. Luckily I don't get them too often. For some reason after a good night of partying my body can recover before I wake up in the morning. Worst case scenario is a headache and maybe some nausea until I chug some water and take a nap for another hour. Usually, I'm just super over tired from staying up til 4am.

In fact, hangover days can be some pretty great days. Like when everyone goes out for breakfast or breakfast at lunch and reminisces about the night before. And then there are the naps and countless hours of watching movies. Hangover naps are always amazing and dream-filled. And then of course there is the music. I usually throw on some emo tunes and take one of those very long naps. Some of my go-to bands on such occasions include The National, The Weepies, Great Lake Swimmers, and Motion City Soundtrack.

Today was a Motion City day. I love these guys. Justin Pierre knows how to write some pretty amazing lyrics and he knows how to sing them too. I swear these guys write songs about my life. You ever feel that way about songs? It happens and for some reason, every Motion City song does that to me. They make me just wanna hold someone or be held; just sit there and think about life and where its going. So today was a lot of thinking about life. I'm gonna give you 3 of the today's big hangover tracks, all by Motion City.

"Hold Me Down", off of Commit This to Memory. This is one of my favourite songs. I don't know why cause its pretty sad. Very relatable though, maybe that's why.

"Can't Finish What You Started", off of Even If It Kills Me. Probably my favourite Motion City album. This is an acoustic version of the song.

"Stand Too Close", off of My Dinosaur Life. This song threw me for a loop the first time I heard it. It's way more manicured and clean than I'm used to from these guys. Still, the lyrics are amazing. Awesome song.

Alrighty, I guess I should throw up an Irish tune for St. Patty's. Flogging Molly has some pretty good hangover music as well. This is "Float" off of Float. This song is awesome and the music video amazing.

Happy Hangover everyone! And remember, its not about how much beer you can drink the night before, its about how well you can keep it down the next morning.

Ok now for the problem. Here is a band called The Killigans. They're pretty cool but I'm having issues figuring out what kinda style they've got going. Its kinda a mix between all three previous bands but I'm leaning more towards the Murphys. Either way, I'm digging the Killigans and I just got really stoked for St. Patty's Day (Only six more weeks!).

White Stripes Rant:
"Damn, we're out of money and I'm too lazy to write more songs for a new record. What are we gonna do?"
"I know, we'll breakup, release a bunch a songs that weren't good enough to make our other albums along with a live DVD. That should generate some hype and get the cash flowing again."
"Great idea. Then in 5 years we'll have a reunion tour where we'll just play old songs anyways. Maximium profit, least amount of effort. I like it."

This is most likely the conversation that was had before announcing their 'breakup'. Well FUCK YOU cause it worked. I decided I wasn't gonna care about this and now look at me, I'm blogging about it. Ridiculous. You win this round White Stripes. I of course blame this whole ordeal on CB40oz. who was the first point out the breakup to me and who also suggested I mention it in this blog. I'm 0-2 today, dammit.

The White Stripes apparently broke up because they wanted to preserve the 'musical image and integrity" of the band. Fair enough, but how hard it is to put out some more music? You have 2 instruments in your band, all your songs are the same 2-3 catchy rifts played over and over again, and no one can really understands your lyrics anyways. I'm pretty sure you could keep this gig rolling for another decade at least.
