This first tune is by Grizzly Bear. It's called Cheerleader. It's got a kind of darkness that hangs over it. The fact that its kinda hard to pick out the lyrics definitely adds to that. Once the choir kicks in about halfway through the song reminds me of an empty church from a Sherlock Holmes story or something. And empty churches are pretty scary:
The second song is by My Morning Jacket. "It ain't evil if it can happen to anybody" Jim James sings. This's really gotta make ya think. For sure one of the biggest fears I have is about hurting people without meaning to. Hurting them with my Evil Urges. Urges sprung out of lust, out of hate, out of guilt, out of jealousy. "It ain't evil if it can happen to anybody..." what'd y'all think?
My second last song: Wolf Parade - Same Ghost Every Night. Wolf Parade sings about insomnia, they sing about apocalypse, they sing about being dropped from great heights. All this and Dan Beckner's voice is haunting. No Doubt. They're sound is sporadic and paranoid. They also love to sing about ghosts.
My biggest fear though is failure. I'll admit it. Sometimes it can be paralyzing. It can cause me to strangle the things I love and strip a lot of the joy away from my life. Thom Yorke's songs can be similar to Wolf Parade's for me in the sense that they're sound reverberates in the huge abyss of fear and a lot of that resonance is what I think makes the tunes so fucking powerful. This song is off of Yorke's solo release Eraser and is called Black Swan. The lyric that gets me the most is "you have tried your best to please everyone, but it just isn't happenin no, it just isn't happenin, and it is fucked up"
Cheers dudes. Rob J
