Jacks and Jills of All Trades

Hey heys. Cody here. I'm going for short and concise today. Lets get it rollin'. My behinds the scenes, best supporting artists:

1. Norah Jones: Yes she normally goes at it solo and gets all the glamour but she recently did a song with Belle & Sebastian for their new album Write About Love, and its awesome. She sings opposite Stuart and they form a pretty perfect pair by my standards. I don't know much about singing but, being an engineer, I do know a lot about harmonics, and those two could make bridges fall down. So Ms. Jones gets the nod for her part in "Little Lou, Ugly Jack, Prophet John".

2. Brett Gurwetiz: This guy is pretty much the king of punk rock. He's most know for his guitar playing skills in Bad Religion and for starting up a little record company called Epitaph. Mr. Brett has been going strong for 32 years and he has way too many skills. When he's not playing with Bad Religion, he's either producing or mixing records for other bands like NOFX, Pennywise, Down By Law and Rancid to name a few. He also produced the Millencolin album Pennybridge Pioneers, which is without question their best album. But I'm giving Brett this award because of his acoustic appearance in that album in the song "The Ballad". The song is pretty sad but very relateable  to any young person out there and Mr. Brett's guitar adds a lot to the song.

3. Greg Hetson: Greg started out as the lead guitarist in the Circle Jerks. Then in 1985 he joined Bad Religion while the previously mentioned Mr. Brett was doing some drug rehab and focusing on his record label. Together Greg and Bad Religion released a 5 song EP called Back to the Known. This EP happens to contain my favourite BR song, and possible my overall favourite song, ever - "Along the Way". This EP also got Mr. Brett pumped up about Bad Religion again which resulted in the greatest punk album of all time, Suffer. Greg Hetson is still with Bad Religion today and is still rocking hard. This is a live version of "Along the Way" from their 1989 tour in Germany. Greg is the guy with longer curly hair wearing NOFX and Circle Jerks T-shirts.

4. Amy Millan: So we all know Amy is awesome. The Stars are pretty cool and I really only like them because of her. But before Stars she was helping out Broken Social Scene with her friend Emily Haines. When Emily couldn't perform at some shows for BSS, Amy stepped up and covered for her. What a good friend. This started a pretty cool relationship with Amy and BSS and she would help write songs for them and appear their at shows. She also has some pretty cool solo stuff. Even though it sounds a little too country for me, I can't not like it. Just cause its Amy. Here is "Baby". Also check out her cover of "I Will Follow You Into The Dark", its awesome.

So there you have it. Norah Jones, Brett Gurwetiz, Greg Hetson, and Amy Millan. Honourable mention goes to Mark Hoppus who became a pretty good producer in his time away from Blink. Peace!
