Week 3: Running out of time

Hey friends,

That last post was pretty unbelievable, it's a tough act to follow. I will try.

So to lead off, I first heard this song watching Amélie many years ago. Being the only child in my family that doesn't play an instrument or sing, I'm sure I can't fully appreciate the composition of this piece, so I'll leave that to others who can. However, the two minutes and twenty seconds it plays for are pretty haunting, I don't need any classical training to understand that.

Now for something completely different. Turn up the volume for this one. I got real into these guys while training solo during the two months before I moved to Guelph. I usually listened to them while stretching after workouts, trying to ignore the team that I left running their own practice. Fang Island bills themselves as a group for healing and easy listening, I find them just damn enjoyable. For the most part, they are an instrumental group but some of their riffs are infectious enough that you might as well try to sing (and air guitar) the part.

Fang Island - Daisy

To finish this one off, this track is one of my favourite hip-hop ones, eva. Well, it's also one of my favourite jams in general. I love everything about it, from the intro, to Common's incredibly honest verses, to the piano that closes it out. I wish more hip-hop artists were like Common, the stuff coming out these days would be better for it.
